So George Mason has managed to hang in the tournament. Today will be he true test as they face UConn for a secure a place in the final four. No doubt there have been some nailbiters that brought what I recall to be the ugliest NCAA Tourney in years. Did anyone catch the Gonzaga v. UCLA game. How friggin dissapointing. The Zags had 'em beat, let Bruins creep up from a 17 point deficit, then got lazy at the end and turned the ball over on an inbound. Yeah, believe me, If I was Adam Morrison I would cry like a baby into my rat-stache too.

And Memphis, oh please!! Memphis had a chance to be in the Final Four, and all they had to do was beat UCLA who's offense didn't even show up for the game. C'mon Tigers, you had somethin to play for. You're comin' from the C-USA. If the CCA Pats get in the dance, that's gonna make your conference look even worse than it already is. Intead I have to watch LSU play UCLA, can you say "Who gives a rat's ass?".

Oh, and of course all the games are on early today and I have to go to work. And it's gonna be sunny today, so we'll be busy. Awesome. Go Patriots!

<dc:subject />

Cinderella My Ass

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has a bracket that is shot to hell. GMU, Bradley? Guess I should have kept a closer look at those mid-majors. Nah, forget that. I mean sure, Mason's first round win over Mich St. is one of those things that just happens. But to come in the next round and boot UNC out of the tourney, give me a friggin break. And now that they're in the Sweet 16 they have to go up against Wichita St......ooooooh. I really hope the Patriots give the Shockers a good ol' Colonial Athletic Association bitch slap on their way to The Eight and represent for they're underwhelming CAA brethren like William and Mary, ODU and Towson. Let me be so bold as to predict the outcome of this FUBAR bracket, Headline:

Cinderella Pats Get Pittsnoggled in

NCAA Final

(who's with me?)

We got in our second lesson of our three lesson package. The first lesson had us doing the "falling leaf" down the bunny slope That consisted of staying on one edge and traversing the hill to one side, staying on the same edge and going the opposite direction. This time we worked on hooking up the turns and changing edges. Our instructor Rodney wasn't quite as interactive as our first instructor and obviously came from the "throw you in the deep end" school of snowboarding. After one refresher run down Broadway (the true bunny slope),we headed up to the top of the mountain to take on the 2 1/2 mile green run called "Sugar and Spice".

On the way up we were able to see Lake Tahoe and a view of the mountains that we were unable to appreciate from the confines of the lodge and lower run. As the lift ride proggressed (did I mention that our package deal wasnt supposed to get us to thetop of the mountain until our third lesson) Rodney described his adventures the previous St. Pats night, drinking car bombs and green beers with other staff 'til the wee hours, then doing a drunken impromtu ride down some mountian. Good for Rodney. Anyway, we get to the top and take off down Sugar and Spice. It was a great time. I fell harder and many more times than I had the previous trip but the ride time to lift time ratio made it worth it. The danger factor certainly increased, having to avoid slidng off into the trees or taking a wrong turn down more advanced run. Rodney led us through some shortcuts that were blue runs, noticeably!, but Rodney was confident in us. Good for Rodney.

Once we finished up with that run we met back up with Brad and Lauren and grabbed a beer at the lodge. For much of the day the sun had been out and the temperature was warm. As we sipped our beers the sun retreated behind the clouds and it began to snow a bit. This is where I got my lesson in the relation betwen snow conditions and pain.

After the beers Brad and I headed up to the Broadway bunny slope where I could work on my turns, Something was different this time though. What had been soft wet snow was now hard and icy. the whole dynamic had changed and I was trying to compensate. It made the turns harder, the hill faster, and my god it hurt more to fall. I did one more run down Broadway afterwards then I was done. I thought perhaps I was just being a puss, but Brad (who works at the joint) verified that the conditions were real shitty. I think I'm gonna pay for those last couple runs today though. Good thing I have to go to work.

<dc:subject />

Green Beer, Shamrocks, and the IRA

So I'm gonna be weak this St. Pats and stay at home. I'll sit at home and drink as much as I can, which these days is about 4 beers until I'm bored, sleepy, hungry, or just thirsty for something else. Long gone are the days where I could grab a 12 of the ol' "cold and watery", down em' until my belly was full, enjoy the fat-tongued frontal lobe buzz, and pass out as the room whizzed by, considering it a victory to not puke.

I didn't wear green today, but noticed others did. I wasn't sorry that I hadn't. I'd like to take pride in my Irish heritage; I'm pretty sure I'm Irish, my name's Irish, or at least used to be. I might raise a glass of Guiness, but I have Sierra Nevada IPA in the fridge. Thats a California beer, brewed in a Britsh style. Look!, there's some green Mardi Gras beads on the desk (Why we have those I have no idea, we didn't celebrate that either). Maybe I'll put those on, walk downstairs, crank up some U2 or Van Morrison and make Jen watch me do a Leprechan dance. This St. Pat's might not be a wash afterall.

"There once were some rhymes they called limericks
Repeated by smart men and dimwits
They're easy to make
A real piece of cake
Until you get to the last line."

Artest proved once again that he was worth the gamble, and Bonzi 'The Monster' Wells, Kevin 'K-Mart' Martin, Brad 'Goofy White Guy' Miller, and of course Mike 'Catch-Me-If-You-Can' Bibby illustrated what is the dynamic future of Sac-town baskeball. Next time we meet Kobe and Co. is at Staples, where hopefully we can go 4-1 on this CA rivalry match-up. While we were there we got to witness the annual Grand Prix of San Francisco. The Grand Prix is a professional bicycle race that winds through the city, with start/finish line in the heart of the financial district. While we never actually left the bay, we had a great time wondering through the hilly streets, watching the seals in the harbor, and eating clam chowder out of sourdough bowls. We're heading back at the end of this month when we'll hopefully cross the Golden Gate Bridge, ride a cable car, and drink more Anchor Steam.

More pics of this trip to come.

Browse Album...

<dc:subject />

Herbarium

The Herbarium is updated.
